Although there’s no official Father of the Year award, Klay Thompson’s father Mychal would’ve been in serious contention for it in 1998.
In May, Thompson shared an anecdote about his father bringing him to a game between the Portland Trail Blazers and Chicago Bulls. That alone is worthy of some serious dad points, but Mychal used his Trail Blazers alum status (’78-’86) to bring the Thompson kids into the tunnel to meet Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
This was long before the days of phone cameras and celebrity selfies, but Thompson still managed to score video proof of the encounter (as well as a sweet pair of autographs). The one minute clip was shared on Friday by @TheWarriorsTalk Twitter account and shows the the three Thompson brothers lined up for an autograph from the pair of Bulls stars, who are both wearing baggy, ill-fitting ’90s suits.
While the two other Thompson brothers goof around blowing raspberries and showing off a Barq’s root beer, Klay looks a little shell-shocked meeting two Bulls stars whose most wins ever in a regular season record he will later smash.
