As the NBA world turned its attention to the high-stakes NBA Draft lottery Tuesday night, Sonya and Dell Curry engaged in another game of chance: determining which son to root for during Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
In order to decide which parent roots for Stephen, and which parent roots for Seth, the Curry parents used a game of rock-paper-scissors and a coin flip.
NBC Sports Bay Area placed a “W” for Warriors on one side of the coin and a “P” for Portland on the other side, and had Sonya and Dell engage in a game of rock-paper-scissors to determine which parent would follow the coin toss.
Sonya won the game of rock-paper-scissors and the coin landed on Portland, meaning Sonya will be wearing Seth’s jersey and Dell will be wearing Steph’s jersey.
On Monday, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called the Currys the “royal family” of the NBA.
“It’s incredible,” he told reporters. “There they are, Steph and Seth, both having all this success. As parents, they must be having the time of their lives. Actually, I know they are, because I’ve talked to them about it. What a beautiful scene. I’m sure it will be conflicting for them this next couple of weeks but what a great story.”
Dell Curry said he’s a little nervous knowing his sons will be playing against each other, but believes that the game will be even tougher on them.
“I normally don’t get nervous for games when either one of them play, but I got a little nervous knowing how they’re going to play against each other,” he said. “It’s going to be tough to put everything aside and battle each other because as siblings they want each other to do well,” Dell said. “They watch each other’s games and cheer for each other.”
