Woman's body found at Fort Funston beach

A woman’s body was found at the bottom of a cliff at Fort Funston in San Francisco Monday morning, according to a statement from U.S. Park Police.

The body was recovered on the beach a quarter-mile south of Sloat Boulevard after U.S. Park Police received a call at 8 a.m.

KCBS Radio reported hikers discovered the body.

Photos posted by television news outlets showed officials from U.S. Park Police and San Francisco’s fire and police departments gathered on the beach. Authorities haven’t determined the woman’s identity or her cause of death.

Last month, a portion of the cliff at Fort Funston fell onto the beach on Feb. 22, trapping two women and a dog. One woman and the dog were rescued by bystanders and first responders, but efforts to find the other woman have been unsuccessful.

The missing woman was identified by family members as Kyra Sunshine Scarlet, 22, an Oakley resident originally from Utah.
