Yankees hit four homers, extend Astros’ skid to five

Gary Sánchez, Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu homered during a six-run fourth inning and Edwin Encarnación hit his AL-leading 23rd home run as the Yankees extended their winning streak to six games by handing the Astros a 10-6 loss in New York.

Houston dropped its fifth in a row despite Jake Marisnick’s two home runs and solo drives by Alex Bregman and Yordan Álvarez.

Sánchez opened the bottom of the fourth with his 22nd homer. With rain falling, Torres connected for a three-run jolt off rookie Framber Valdéz. LeMahieu then tagged reliever Chris Devenski for a two-run homer and a 6-0 lead.

The inning included two delays — a short break to fix the mound and a 37-minute stoppage when the showers fell too hard.

Cameron Maybin added a two-run double, scored twice and made a sliding catch for the Yankees, doing damage against the team he helped win the 2017 World Series.

Aroldis Chapman got the final out with two on for his 20th save in 22 chances.

Cubs 7, Mets 4: Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run double to highlight a six-run third and Adbert Alzolay limited New York to one hit in four-plus innings of relief for the win in his major-league debut for host Chicago. Mets first baseman Pete Alonso hit his 25th homer to tie Dodgers All-Star Cody Bellinger (2017) for most homers by an NL rookie before the All-Star break. Alonso is one shy of the Mets’ rookie mark set by Darryl Strawberry in 1983.

Blue Jays 7, Angels 5: In his first major-league at-bat since May 23, Billy McKinney hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to give host Toronto the victory. McKinney had entered as a pinch-runner in the eighth.

Reds 7, Brewers 1: Jose Iglesias homered and drove in four runs and Tanner Roark allowed one run — a homer by major-league leader Christian Yelich — over six innings as visiting Cincinnati won its fifth in a row and extended Milwaukee’s losing streak to four.

Marlins 7, Cardinals 6: JT Riddle hit a two-run homer in the 11th to help visiting Miami win. Sergio Romo allowed a run in the bottom half of the inning, but picked off pinch-runner Jack Flaherty at second base to end the game.

Nationals 7, Phillies 4: Anthony Rendon and Victor Robles homered in a four-run sixth inning for host Washington. Kurt Suzuki also went deep for the Nationals, who earned their first three-game sweep of the season.

Royals 4, Twins 1: Alex Gordon had a two-run single in a three-run first and Glenn Sparkman pitched seven solid innings for host Kansas City. Minnesota catcher Mitch Garver left after the seventh inning with left heel soreness
